The race report of the Battle for Glory
Michal Smidl wins the Battle for Glory. German simracer Angelo Michel secures third place and takes around 3,000 euros.
Battle for Glory - Racer League
A strong finish to the season for Angelo Michel: After a thrilling battle against Christoph Holstein, he only has to admit defeat to high-flyer Michal Smidl and last year's champion Alejandro Sanchez on the virtual Circuito Ascari in Spain.
For Michel it is one of the best results in the Racer League. "I did everything I could to stay in front and keep the car on the track," he explained.
The Ascari circuit is extremely narrow, with grass instead of a run-off zone next to the asphalt, just like on the Nordschleife. Every little mistake can cost several positions. "I'm happy that I was able to keep the car well on the track, but I'm annoyed that I couldn't drive the pace I did in qualifying. I had to hit every corner exit well because otherwise it would have had me in the next braking zone."
The special: For the Battle For Glory, the track was unknown until race day. The simracing stars therefore had little time to get used to the course, which is not one of the standard tracks. But even the short preparation time could not stop the Czech perennial winner.
"I laid the foundation stone in qualifying. I think that was the key, because it was quite turbulent in the field. I'm happy about the race win, but I couldn't drive as consistently as I wanted. I also had a half spin," analysed Racer League Champion Smidl.
The multiple champion collected around 7,000 euros in prize money. The runner-up Alejandro Sanchez takes home a Christmas bonus of about 5,000 Euros.
Battle for Glory - Challenger League
In the Challenger League race (driving support), runner-up David Cid (1,000 Euros prize money) dominates ahead of Marcos Valverde (500 Euros). The last place on the podium goes to Michael Frei (400 Euros), who benefits from a mistake by Tyler Klausch with three laps to go.
