The race report of the third Challenge: Mugello
Alejandro Sanchez fights his way from 13th place to first in the Racer League. Likewise, a pilot from the lounge in Madrid wins in the Challenger League.
Racer League
Only very few fans would have expected this! Alejandro Sanchez won the Racer League race on the virtual circuit of Mugello from 13th place. Among other things, the Spaniard benefited from a chaotic race start. After the first lap, the 2021 Racer League Champion was already in fourth place.
For Sanchez, it is another podium after two third places in Silverstone and Spielberg and the first victory with which he can extend his World Championship lead. "I was totally surprised when I looked at the tableau after the start and I was fourth. Of course I was very lucky with the incidents in front of me. I even got hit myself, but it didn't affect me much," analysed race winner Sanchez. "I was very happy with my pace and how I managed the Push2Pass activations."
Thanks to the Push2Pass system at Mugello, each rider had eight opportunities to call up additional horsepower during the race."
It was a little more complicated to get past Vojtech Polesny in the middle of the race. But using the outside lane into turn one, Sanchez put himself in the right position to crack the Czech.
The compatriot of Racing Unleashed record winner Michal Smidl ended up in second place, even starting Saturday from the Munich lounge ailing. Polesny: "I'm not entirely happy with second place because I don't feel fit and it wasn't enough for the win. At the front I did my best to defend first place, but Alejandro was just too fast. In the duel, I preferred to back off so as not to risk a collision."
With Florian Hasse in third place, a German and another pilot from the Munich Lounge also made it onto the podium. However, Racing Unleashed's German site continues to wait for a win after the third race weekend. Last season, Michal Smidl still spoiled the Lounge in Munich's Motorworld with numerous successes. However, the three-time RU champion only managed seventh place and lost valuable points to Sanchez in the overall standings.
Challenger League
The perfect weekend for the Lounge in Madrid was ushered in by Agustin Torlaschi and Marcos Valverde, who scored a double victory in the Challenger League on Friday evening. For the Argentine it was the first win at Racing Unleashed. Nico Fahland (Munich) finished third, as he did in Spielberg, and reduced the gap in the championship to Janik Pletscher, who crossed the finish line in fifth place after a race to catch up.
The next races will be held in Imola in a fortnight' time. If you want to take part in the Challengers yourself, you can qualify for the race from Wednesday in one of the lounges. You can find more information below.
