RU Challenge Race 3 2020 Nürburgring P8 Racer League

WÜEST PREMIERE WINNER IN THE RACER LEAGUE

The serial winner of the Racer League is beaten for the first time this season. Reason: Due to the rapidly increasing number of corona cases, the Czech Republic was declared a country with an increased risk of infection. Therefore, the Czech participants such as table leader Michal Smidl and the overall runner-up Vojtech Polesny could not take part in the sixth round in Spa-Francorchamps.

Bad luck for Smidl and Co., luck for the rest of the participants

That made it clear that there would be a premiere winner when running on the infamous Ardennes roller coaster. It was correspondingly exciting in qualifying. With a time of 1: 43.619 minutes, Angelo Michel (Germany) initially took pole position, 0.080 seconds faster than Dustin Wüest.

Second attempt for Michel and Schmid

Michel - just like Thomas Schmid (Switzerland) - had an advantage because the traction control was activated. Hot discussions ensued. The race management saw no intention, but an advantage. Therefore, the two of them were initially given three places on the starting grid. Then the penalty was revised: Michel and Schmid were allowed to drive the qualifying a second time. In the end, Michel ended up in second place behind pole-setter Wüest.

“The two racers had different conditions than the other drivers. So we had to intervene. It was fairest to give them a second attempt."

RU Michel Angelo

3rd place for Angelo Michel

At the start, Michel fell back to fourth, while Wüest was able to extend his lead ahead of Ivan Kaufmann and Loris Mistretta. Then Michel Mistretta cashed in, then even crawled up to Kaufmann, but could no longer pass.

“I am satisfied with P3. The troubles before the race were really bad, but I'm happy with the race, it was a lot of fun.”

Dustin Wueest

Racer League winner

With the win, Wüest receives prize money of 2,500 Swiss francs. His joy about the victory was correspondingly great: “I had the feeling that I started normally and that I was very careful into the first corner. But the gap was then quite large. I don't know how that worked out. After a few laps, I checked whether I could push a little more and increase the gap."

The Swiss is catching up with Smidl (75 points) in the drivers' standings with 56 points. Polesny is now third in the overall standings with 51 points. The Czech drivers now hope that the Corona situation in their country will improve and that they will be able to fight back on the track in Monza. Wüest does not want to admit defeat: “I will not give up. I want to be a real competition to the Czechs."

RU Challenge Race 6 2020 Spa-Francorchamps Kevin Aebi (P2)

Exciting Challenger League race

In the Challenger League, which is run with less experienced drivers and with more driving aids in the virtual Ferrari SF70 from the 2017 Formula 1 season, there was again a three-way battle between the top three in the drivers' standings: Philipp Baur (Germany), Kevin Aebi (Switzerland) and Devin Isgro. In qualifying, the Swiss Isgro had the lead, ahead of Baur and Aebi.

At the start of the 16-lap race, Isgro confidently defended the lead. Aebi passed Baur and hunted Isgro. On lap nine, the Swiss attacked his compatriot in the approach to La Source, but he was too late on the brakes. Isgro was able to counter and defend the lead.

The decision was made on lap eleven, when Aebi turned in the last chicane and even fell behind Baur. However, two laps later he passed the German again with a strong maneuver.

The fight for the title has become even more exciting: Baur and Isgro now have 60 points, Aebi 58.

Winner Devin Isgro analyzes: “At the start I had to be careful not to brake too early, otherwise Kevin would have run into my back. After that I wanted to keep my place and not push too much. I knew if I pushed myself to the limit I would make a mistake. After Kevin's mistake, everything was relaxed. I think if Kevin had waited two or three more laps he would have won. Because it was exhausting to stay ahead. ”He can now look forward to 300 Swiss francs in prize money.
